ON THE GO! Princess Pamper Party at Hair Flair

Princess Pamper Party 3

For our second ON THE GO! stop, we visited Hair Flair for a Princess Pamper Party. For those not familiar with our ON THE GO! series, this Spring we started to visit many of the birthday party venues we feature in our Birthday Guide  for fun and educational programs at their locations.  This gives our readers a chance to see and experience the party locations that we talk about in our guide

Hair Flair, located at 299 South Main Street in Flemington, is a full-service salon with kid-friendly cutting stations . Kids have fun in the Barbie car and Radio Flyer airplane seats while getting their hair cut!  In addition to the kid-friendly hair cuts, Hair Flair offers Princess Pamper Birthday Parties.  The Princess Pamper Parties allows girls to “feel like the Princess she deserves to feel like”.

Hair Flair Princess

We had sixteen excited Princesses and Princes attend our Princess Pamper event this past April. Hair Flair’s owner, Brenda, and her expert staff greeted our royal participants and treated them to four different pampering stations including hair styling, make-up & face-painting, nails, and a crown designing craft.

For the hairstyling, the Princesses got their hair curled and braided, and the Princes got cool colored gel to slick up their hair.

Princesses selected their favorite nail colors and make-up, while the Princes picked out their favorite designs to be painted on their face.

To complete their royal look, all of the Princes and Princesses designed their own crowns using beautiful jewels and stickers.

Once all of the pretty Princesses and Princes were pampered, we concluded the event with story time. We all enjoyed Barefoot Book’s “The Real Princess: A Mathematical Tale”, a quirky mathematical twist of “The Princess and the Pea” which tells the tale of The King and Queen and their three sons who are on the search for a real Princess.

Thanks to the experts at Hair Flair, our CREATIVE KIDS felt like the Princesses and Princes they are!

ON THE GO: LEGO Mania at Art Attack

ON THE GO LEGO Mania Reviseda

Over the past several months, I have been fortunate that I have been able to get to know many local businesses in and around Hunterdon County as I do my research for our Birthday Guide.  In addition to offering memorable birthday parties, these businesses provide a fun and creative learning environment for kids through their programs and special events.  That is why we launched a new program called THE CREATIVE KIDS CLUB ON THE GO!  This Spring, we will be visiting many of the businesses we feature in our Birthday Guide for fun and educational programs at their locations.

Our first stop was Art Attack located at 14 Commerce Street in Flemington.  Art Attack is the area’s largest Paint Your Own Pottery and Glass Fusing Studio. An Art Attack birthday party is perfect for kids age 3-103 – both boys and girls! Various pottery and glass fusing project packages are available. All the work is done in their kid-friendly studio. Or you can take out the Art Attack Party Pack for at home parties.  In addition to birthday parties, Art Attack offers walk-in projects, Kids Nights Out, Ladies Nights Out, and projects for schools, scouts, and 4H clubs.  Projects are available for the different seasons and holidays – Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.  They also do special themed projects geared towards CREATIVE KIDS throughout the year such as Dr. Seuss, Frozen, Paw Patrol, and LEGO.

In fact, when I saw their LEGO Mania dinner-plate project, I knew that it would be the perfect start to our ON THE GO! program.  My CREATIVE KIDS are huge LEGO fans, and they are all still singing “Everything is Awesome” from The LEGO Movie.  If you haven’t seen the LEGO Movie yet, we recommend it!)

Last Monday, THE CREATIVE KIDS CLUB visited Art Attack to complete the LEGO Mania dinner-plate project.  Typically, Art Attack is not opened on Mondays so we had the place to ourselves.  Darcy, the owner, was there to lead our 10 CREATIVE KIDS through the steps of the project.

The kids had a choice of three characters from The LEGO Movie – Emmet, Benny or Wyldstyle.  When the kids signed up, they specified which character they wished to make.  When we arrived, the dinner plates were ready to be painted.  The faces of each characters where already drawn on the plates to make it a little easier for our younger crowd (ages 3- 6 yrs).  The kids got one paint color at a time, and Darcy instructed them where each color belonged.

All of our CREATIVE KIDS did a fantastic job!  We left the dinner plates to be glazed and fired, and now a week later they are ready to be picked up.  I know my three CREATIVE KIDS can not wait to eat off their new LEGO plates!

Thank you to Darcy, Art Attack, and all of our CREATIVE KIDS who made our first ON THE GO! program a success!

Our next ON THE GO! program is scheduled for Thursday, April 17th at 4pm.  We will be having a Princess Pamper Party at Hair Flair in Flemington.  Be sure to follow us on Facebook for updates and more ON THE GO! announcements.

CRAFT TIME: Party Blowers

Party Blowers

For New Year’s this year, we made festive party blowers, but these toys are fun and easy to make at any party and can be customized for any party theme .  The materials needed for this craft include copy paper (we used white, but you can use decorative paper of the same weight), cardstock paper, tape, glue and rubber band.  You can decorate using stickers, foil, ribbons, markers, etc.  Just a few simple steps:

1. To make the paper tongue, cut paper lengthwise in thirds.  Fold lengthwise twice and glue down the middle.

When glue is dry, curl the paper up around a pencil or straw and secure with rubber band for several hours.  (If you are making these at your party, you may want to do this first step before the party starts so they are all ready to go).

Roll

2. Cut a piece of cardstock widthwise in thirds.  Roll the cardstock to make a tube.  Glue cardstock as you go to secure.  Set aside for a minute to dry.

3. Remove rubber band from white paper tongue roll. Unroll it slightly.  Open up the one side of the tongue and put glue around the inside of the opening then put it around the cardstock tube.  Attach with tape to secure.

4.  Decorate tube with stickers, markers, etc. We covered up the tape that attached the paper tongue to the cardstock tube with a piece of foil, decorative cardstock or ribbon.

Once the glue has dried, you can use your party blower to celebrate your festive occasion!
